SONG PREMIERE: JayWood – Club 3D X

A call out to the wild and negative aspects of club culture, is the new single by funk & indie-pop outfit, JayWood.

Inspired by the less-than-stellar reputation of one of Winnipeg’s dive clubs, “Club 3D X” flows like a faux ad about a fictional club opening soon, with its album art emulating the stereotypical club posters you see spattered throughout Winnipeg’s SHED.

Although the idea originally sprouted from a joke, the song also draws from real experiences of being young and feeling the pressure to have certain kinds of fun. “The lyrics talk a lot about being pushed and pulled into party culture,” says Jeremy Haywood-Smith the mastermind behind JayWood, “Which, as an introvert, I’m not too stoked on, but I’ve definitely been down that road.”

Additionally melding the essence of upbeat, hype-jams with the sadder side of the party life, the song ends off with an ode to the polarizing effects of clubbing. “I like to imagine it’s almost like the high of being in the party scene going wrong,’ says Haywood-Smith, “You want to keep having fun, but you’re just not having a great time by the end of it.”
