The Flips
Alt-rock
This summer, we’re excited to be the Main Stage Sponsors for the inaugural Sunspot Music Festival in Morristown, Indiana! The multi-band outdoor festival features over 40 acts from in and around the mid-west & east America! Acts range from alt-rock to hip-hop and pop.
We spoke with Nick Sintos (vocalist/guitarist) from alt-rock quintet, The Flips. They’ll be playing Sunspot Music Fest on June 16th on the SPF Main Stage.
SPF: What inspired you to play music?
NS: I got my first guitar at 13, and as soon as I started learning chords, I started writing songs. Music has always been the most effective way for me to express myself and what I’m feeling. It’s communication. It’s therapy. It’s life.
SPF: What’s your favorite part about the Indy music scene?
NS: We’re from Chicago, so it’s hard for us to say what our favorite part about the scene is. I appreciate how a lot of the musicians here really seem like a close knit community, and we’ve always felt very welcome in the past.
SPF: What’s your favorite part about your live show?
NS: Some of our songs have these really big wall of sound moments followed by everything dropping out except for me with a guitar singing some super sad things. I think people really latch onto this image, as it presents a very real and perhaps vulnerable moment during the song that the audience can connect with. Being able to connect with an audience on this level is a really unique experience, and it’s something I strive for each show.
SPF: What’s the one thing you hope people take from listening to your music?
NS: Depression and mental illness are common themes in our songs. I write from a very personal place, and I hope that at the very least, listeners who might be feeling a similar sort of way can understand that they aren’t alone, and it’s okay to feel depressed or anxious or anything like that.
SPF: Who is your ideal band to open for?
NS: Personally, my favorite band is Manchester Orchestra. Their live show is on a whole other level. It would be a dream come true to be able to open for those guys.
